The Door has swung wide open
Having heard of the uprising in Iran on the news on the 10th of January, I wrote the following to the various influencers and leaders around me:
" The door has swung wide open. Now we know why the refugee matter has been so gripping. They were coming over dead or alive - I believe because they need to hear the Words of Truth and Grace. And, where can they hear it? If not in the West. But, we have been bent on sending them back, or putting them in cages. Yet, they keep coming. Driven not for economic freedom, but by divine urgency and impetus. Willing to die on the journey!
Would we sit by and let this moment pass us by? We must respond. We just celebrated Christmas. The Persian Magi came a long ardous way to see and bring gifts to the Christ Child. We must reciprocate. We must GO and take the Gift of Truth and Grace to them.
I don't know how but it is a door we must go through. It is a once in a lifetime / generation opportunity and we are being watched.
I am reminded of the words of Moses:
“...Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here? 7Now why are you discouraging the hearts of the Israelites (Persians) from crossing over into the land which the Lord has given them? (Num. 32:6)
How must we respond? Are we prepared to Go? Can we leave the comforts and conveniences our Western lifestyles to GO? Who among us will live and die for the cause of Jesus Christ? He did for us, can we do it for Him? Is the cost too high?
The times in which we live is very similar to the WW2 and the Jewish situation:
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,"
Spoken by President John F. Kennedy (1961), but attributed to John Stuart Mill (1867).
If we Christians do not step into this vacuum, something else or someone else will. And we would have failed on our purpose in a generation.
I trust we will realise and understand that we have come to our positions for 'such a time'. This very task! "
Church Mission Society have called it a “discipleship gap”.
And if I may add, the same is true for The Quiet Revival taking place amongst Gen Z, the young and the youthful all around us.
